Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat A MAN threatening to harm himself prompted the launch of Tynemouth RNLI inshore lifeboat this evening.

Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat and the Tynemouth Volunteer Life Brigade at 20:52 after receiving a request from Northumbria Police who had received a report that a 43 year-old man was threatening to harm himself near the end of Tynemouth pier.

Arriving on scene just minutes after launching the volunteer lifeboat crew kept the man under observation while Police approached the man who was sitting on a step inside the pier, around 50 metres from the pier end. Members of the TVLB stood by on the pier.

After 20 minutes the man agreed to come off the steps and was escorted from the pier by police.

The lifeboat was then stood down and returned to station.
